Visit The King's Observatory - Tour Information

The King’s Observatory will again be open to the public for a limited period, Mondays to Fridays from 19th May to 29 June this year.

Please note: We will be opening the website for the sale of tickets this year on the 21st May.

The King’s Observatory will again be open to the public for a limited period, Mondays to Fridays from 9th June to 17th July this year. Unfortunately, tickets are sold out for this year but please sign up to our mailing list if you would like to be notified about future tours and cancellations. 

For those visitors unable to purchase 2026 tickets

All tickets for 2026 have now been sold. We have however opened a daily “waiting list” arrangement to assist those 2026 ticket holders whom, for whatever reason, are no longer to able to use their tickets and wish to re-sell them. Interested parties wishing to purchase such re-sell tickets can now register their interest on the individual daily waiting list by entering their details on a first-come first-served basis. There is no restriction on the number of days one can register. Later in the year and as for previous years , we will again be opening the register for those interested in purchasing tickets for 2027.

For those visitors with 2026 tickets

  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the tour start time.

On arrival

  • Your ticket will be checked and you’ll be able to enter the house as soon as the previous tour (if any) has finished. You will be provided with disposable shoe covers which must be worn throughout the tour.

During your visit

  • There are no facilities for eating or drinking available. Toilet facilities are provided at the carpark.
  • Each tour is estimated to last some 75 minutes.
  • You are welcome to walk around the grounds before or after your tour.
  • No restrictions on photography

Other matters to be noted

  • Tickets for these tours must be purchased online via this website.
  • The price of tickets is £20 per person and £15 for seniors (60 yrs +).
  • The guided tour times are 13.45hrs and 15.30hrs weekdays only.
  • No dogs please.
  • The driveway runs through the golf course to the building and all users are asked as a courtesy to give way to players on the course so as to minimize any inconvenience to members.
  • We regret that wheelchair access is not possible.
  • No children under 10 years old will be admitted.

Location

The King’s Observatory, TW9 2SB – Entrance off the A316.  Access is by way of the shared driveway with the Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, which is signed from the main road.

Transport:

By Train:  Richmond station is served by Underground District Line, Overground and Main Line from Waterloo and Clapham Junction (allow for a 20 minute walk from the Station).

By Bus:  No. 490 to Pools on the Park which is located at the entrance to the driveway.

By Car and Bicycle:  There is ample free parking at the Observatory available next to the house – please do not park in the golf club car park, which is some distance away.

By Foot:  It is approximately a 20 minute walk from Richmond Town Centre to the King’s Observatory. There is no access from the Riverside Path.
